If your grass is looking patchy, uneven, or faded, you need high quality grass seed from Sports Grounds. Whether you need to revitalise a full pitch or just parts of your garden, we have everything need, including:

We also have multi-purpose grass seed, for if you have multiple fields, grounds, and lawns that need some attention.

The Importance of Grass Seed

Grounds and gardens often develop patches of poor grass growth that spoil the look of the area as a whole. To ensure consistency throughout, you need grass seed.

It isn’t just about aesthetics, either. If you own or work with grounds, you need to keep them in pristine condition, or teams will complain and organisers will look elsewhere for their next seasons’ games. Uneven grass can also be a hazard, potentially leading to injuries.

Thankfully, it’s easy to maintain it with some quality grass seed. If you use it effectively, ensuring that the seed is buried deep enough to take root, you’ll soon see an improvement in the target areas.

When to Use Grass Seed for Sports Grounds

The best time to seed grass pitches is early Autumn, between Mid-August and late September, or late Spring (April to June). During these windows, the temperature is ideal for grass growth, and due to how most sports are played in summer, you’ll see uninterrupted growth before the facilities are used again.

New seed needs around 6 weeks to grow, although this will depend on the grass seed you’ve chosen. If the growth fails, you’ll have to wait months for another good planting window; it’s best to avoid growing new grass in the winter or in between games unless you have the right grass seed for lower temperatures.

With grounds, you’ll be carrying out most renovations when the area(s) is used the least, so it makes sense to reseed the grass around the same time. If you plant at the correct time, your grounds will look noticeably improved within a month or two.

When to Use Grass Seed for Gardens

Just like with grounds, the best time to use grass seed in your garden is early Autumn or towards the end of Spring. Regardless of whether you’re just fixing some patches or doing the whole lawn, it should be looking great again within a month or two.

You still want to avoid using areas of your garden that have been reseeded for a few weeks. Make sure it gets plenty of light and moisture, and try to keep kids and pets away until the seed has had time to take root.

The Best Grass Seed to Use

This depends on what grass you’re working with.

Your garden benefits best from a fast growing grass seed, and we have the Autumn Winter Grass Pack that is perfect for use later in the year.

For professional sports grounds, things get a little more complicated, as it depends on the type of grass, as well as the length. Bowling greens and cricket wickets are a lot shorter than the field around them, and will therefore benefit from a specialist grass seed.

To make your purchase easier, we have a selection of multi-purpose grass seed bags that will work great no matter where they’re used.

But if you do need something more specialist, we have it, with grass seeds designed for particular sports and activities.

Grass Seed you can Trust

If you’re working hard to improve the look of your garden or grounds, you don’t want the grass to let the side down. With quality grass seed from Sports Grounds, yours will look fantastic after just a few weeks, and will continue to for a long time.

We supply far more than just grass seed too. If you have a bigger project ahead of you, we have fertiliser, soil conditioners, loam, equipment, and everything else you need to make those plans a reality.
